E.ON Buys US Wind Farms

05 October 2007 12:54

German energy giant E.ON is to buy the Irish wind farm operator Airtricity's US business for $1.4bn, expanding its renewables portfolio to the US.

Airtricity currently operates wind farms with a capacity of about 210MW in the US states of Texas and New York.

The company also has more than 1,000MW of additional projects in development.

The sale follows E.ON's purchase of renewables business Energi E2 in Spain and Portugal last month, increasing its total capacity of wind power projects from 2.6GW to 4.6GW.

The deal is subject to regulatory approvals in the US and is expected to close by the end of the year.
