Worlds Biggest Wind Farm Planned for Oz

08 October 2007 14:54

A $1.8bn project to build one of the world's largest wind farms could be up and running in Australia by 2009.

Germany's largest solar energy company, Conergy, says it plans to build a wind farm in Australia as part of a plan to expand the company's presence in Asia-Pacific.

The wind farm is expected to have as many as 500 turbines generating about 1,000MW of electricity to power about 400,000 new homes.

The project would be operated by Conergy-owned international renewable energy company Epuron, who will submit a development application for the farm in March next year, with approval expected by the end of the year.
