China Closes Smaller Power Stations09 October 2007 14:40 China has closed its small power stations and is planning more closures by the end of the year as part of a campaign to improve energy efficiency. Power stations with more than 9GW of generating capacity have been closed down with another 1GW to be shut down to cut energy use, China's National Development and Reform Commission said in a statement on its website. Earlier this year, the country announced that firms wanting to build new coal-fired power plants would simultaneously have to shut down smaller, older generators.
