China has announced it is to build its first offshore wind power station, says Chinese news service Xinhua.

State-owned oil company China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) is to complete the construction of the 1,500KW wind power station, 60km offshore of Bohai Bay on China's north-eastern coast.

CNOOC is increasingly focusing on creating new sources of energy, renewable energy and energy conservation technologies, the company told Xinhua.

No further details of the project have been released.
