EU Meets Iran over Nuclear

23 October 2007 17:38

Iran's new nuclear negotiator will meet western diplomats in Rome today as the world tries to determine whether Tehran has hardened its stance on its atomic programme.

Iran's refusal to halt its nuclear programme - which could potentially create materials for a nuclear weapon - has already prompted the UN Security Council to impose two sets of sanctions on the country.

Iran says the programme is solely for electricity production.

Head of European Union foreign policy Javier Solana will meet Saeed Jalili, who has made it clear he will not compromise on Iran's pursuit of nuclear technology, according to a Reuters report.
