UK Gas Turbine Plant Gets Go Ahead

31 October 2007 16:45

British energy company EDF Energy has received go-ahead to develop a new combined-cycle gas turbine power station in a bid to meet the UK's projected 'power crunch'.

The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) has agreed EDF Energy can now proceed to develop the station in Nottinghamshire, England.

The proposed new station will have a capacity of around 1300MW - enough to supply the needs of around 1.5 million homes.

EDF says the station is part of its contribution to meet the projected short-term shortfall in power generation, which could start by 2016 if no investment in new power plants is made.

The company plans to build up to four plants in the UK, which are likely to be built adjacent to existing nuclear sites.
