North Korea to Begin Disabling Reactors

05 November 2007 12:47

North Korea is to start disabling its fifty-year old nuclear programme today, supervised by a team of US inspectors.

The country's sole functioning reactor in Pyongyang will be disabled first followed by two other facilities, the team has told local media.

North Korea is required to disable its reactors and account for its fissile material and nuclear arms programme by the end of this year under a deal reached with China, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the US.

The country conducted its first nuclear test in October 2006.
