Shell and Codexis Work on Bio Fuel Development

07 November 2007 14:59

Royal Dutch Shell and Codexis Inc have agreed to extend their collaboration agreement to develop new super enzymes to convert biomass to fuel.

Codexis scientists create upper enzymes capable of out-performing naturally occurring varieties.

The company has already used the technology to improve manufacturing processes for pharmaceutical companies.

The joint research will focus on adapting enzymes to improve the conversion of a range of raw materials into high-performance fuels.

The two companies have worked on bio fuels since November last year and positive results ahead of schedule has resulted in the extended agreement.

The new five year agreement will see Shell making an equity investment in Codexis and making a seat on the company’s board.
