Exelon Picks GE Hitachi for Texas Plant

13 November 2007 09:53

US-based electricity utility Exelon has chosen technology company GE Hitachi to design its proposed two-reactor plant in Texas, US.

Exelon says it will use Economic Simplified Boiling Water Reactor (ESBWR) technology, which operates by relying on gravity and convection to operate passive safety systems.

Speaking to Reuters, Exelon announced it is currently studying two South Texas locations as potential sites: Matagorda and Victoria counties.

In September this year, power company NRG Energy also filed a request to construct two reactors in Texas.

Exelon is seeking a license to build and operate the plant in November 2008.
