US and China Working Towards Biofuels Pact

16 November 2007 14:43

The US and China are working on a pact to promote the use of ethanol and other biofuels to reduce harmful emissions and could announce an agreement as early as next month, according to US officials.

Following a meeting with Chinese officials in Beijing this week, Assistant US Energy Secretary Alexander Karsner says they are likely to meet again in Indonesia next month to discuss a replacement for the Kyoto Protocol, writes the Associated Press.

China, along with the US, is the world's largest producer of carbon dioxide and has so far rejected caps on emissions.
