KEPCO Buys into Chinese Power Plants

06 December 2007 16:12

Korean utility Korea Electric Power (KEPCO) has bought a stake in a US$1.34bn Chinese joint venture to build power plants in China over the next five decades.

KEPCO's 34 percent share will buy 15 power plants and build a further nine, a spokesman for the state-run company told The Korean Times.

The 24 power plants will have a combined capacity of 9.33 million kilowatts.

Coal mines will also be developed as part of the deal.

Other partners in the joint venture include China's state-run Shanxi International Electricity Group (SIEG).
