Emerson to Install Digital Software For Coal Units

12 December 2007 15:25

US Engineering and power technology company Emerson is to install digital automation software at 12 new coal-fired units being built in the US, the company has announced at this year's Power-Gen conference in New Orleans.

PlantWeb incorporates high-speed communication networks, intelligent field devices, wireless communications, digital bus technologies and asset management software.

Emerson says digital bus-based technology helps "lower wiring costs and streamline device installation at power plants" in addition to avoiding costly unplanned outages in the long-term.

The coal-fired units, scheduled to go into commercial operation within the next five years, are set to generate 7,000MW of power.
