Greenpeace Could Challenge UK's Nuclear Future

04 January 2008 16:00

Environmental group Greenpeace could mount a legal challenge to the UK Government's energy policy ahead of an expected decision next week to green light a new generation of nuclear power stations.

The group could repeat its successful challenge of an energy review last year.

In a statement, Greenpeace says its lawyers are looking at a report compiled by energy experts that claims the government consultation on the future of nuclear power is "flawed".

Greenpeace also says it will examine the government's decision on building new power stations with "great interest" and has not ruled out legal action.

The government's decision is expected on Tuesday, together with the publication of an Energy Bill to meet climate change goals by 2020.
