UK Chancellor To Hold Talks Over Energy Price Hikes07 January 2008 14:22 UK Chancellor Alistair Darling has called for urgent talks with energy watchdog Ofgem following a hike in consumer energy bills. Last week, npower announced it was putting up electricity prices by 12.7 percent and gas prices by 17.2 percent in response to a surge in wholesale energy prices. But the chancellor has demanded to know why energy companies such as Npower are introducing double-digit price rises, fearing the moves could undermine the government's anti-inflation strategy, writes the Financial Times.
