German Photovoltaic Plant Connects To Grid

16 January 2008 12:54

Global renewable energy company Epuron has connected a large photovoltaic solar plant to Germany's public power grid, making it the sixth largest plant in the world.

The thin-film solar plant in Baar, near Augsburg, has a capacity of 4.8MW.

The plant produces roughly five million kilowatt hours per year, enough to supply approximately 1,400 four-person households with solar power while saving over 3,500t of CO2, says the company.

Epuron, a member of solar power systems company Conergy AG, says thin-film technology has "proven in our company to be a viable alternative for the implementation of large-scale plants in Germany".
