UK Wind Farms At Risk

04 February 2008 14:49

Plans to build onshore wind farms that would meet a third of Britain's energy needs are in jeopardy due to objections by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), which say the turbines interfere with its radar, according to an investigation by The Times newspaper.

The MoD has lodged objections to at least four onshore wind farms because they make it impossible to spot aircraft.

The objections are also likely to apply to wind turbines in the North Sea, part of a large-scale renewable energy project announced at the end of last year.
