Toronto Nuclear Power Plant C$300m Over Budget

12 February 2008 15:10

The overhaul of two reactors at the Bruce nuclear plant in Toronto, Canada, is C$300m over budget, with costs expected to run higher, according to majority-owner TransCanada.

The company told the Toronto Star newspaper that the project could cost much more.

"We have determined that it's highly likely the cost is going to exceed C$3bn, so we have increased the authorised funding for the project," TransCanada vice president Glenn Menuz says

Critics of the deal believe the tax payer will have to shoulder most of the costs.
