Zimbabwe in Talks to Re-Start Power Stations

21 February 2008 17:07

Zimbabwe could re-start idle coal-fired power stations to meet its own growing energy shortages with the help of foreign investors, Energy Minister Mike Nyambuya has announced.

Zesa Holdings may restart the idle power stations and discussions are underway to renovate older plants, according to Bloomberg.

Power shortages have sometimes left industry and homes without electricity for 20 hours a day.

Zimbabwe imports about a third of its electricity from South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
