Atlantic Storms Hit Power Lines10 March 2008 15:25 Homes and businesses across the US and UK are without power following severe storms, which are set to cause further disruption this week. Winds gusting over 60 mph ripped across the Washington area in the US yesterday afternoon, with storms knocking out electricity to more than 80,000 homes and businesses. Hitting the UK during the night, the storms took out power lines leaving 7,000 homes in southwest England and 3,000 in Wales without electricity. High winds of up to 82 mph in some areas of the UK are expected to cause further disruption to rail, roads and airports with the chance of localised flooding during the course of the day.
