Eskom to Cut South African Power Again17 March 2008 16:32 South Africa's state-owned utility Eskom Holdings has again cut power across the country's towns and cities after four generating units failed over the weekend. The company says all cities will be affected by the 1,000MW power cuts throughout the day as the company struggles to maintain a steady supply, an unnamed spokesperson told Bloomberg. The risk of cuts is expected to remain high until the end the week, according to the company. Power blackouts, which halted mining operations, have remained under control until now for six weeks. In February Eskom announced it was inviting tenders to build power generating plants, to be fully operational by June 2012, in a bid to resolve the country's massive energy shortage.
