Chile Faces Power Decline

09 April 2008 14:53

A decline in natural gas imports from Argentina and droughts which have cut hydropower output has led to power shortages across Chile.

The country may be forced to "limit power use for the first time since 1999", Santiago stock broker BanChile Corredores de Bolsa told Bloomberg.

The shortages may also force the country to ration electricity to some of its copper mines; Chile is the world's number one copper producer.
