RWE Offer for British Energy

10 April 2008

German utility RWE has made an all-cash share offer for British Energy which could value the UK nuclear operator at £11bn, writes the Financial Times.

British Energy has also been in talks with French nuclear company EDF, which has indicated plans to buy part or all of the company.

UK energy Centrica has previously made an all share offer for British Energy, but is unlikely to be a favourable option, according to the newspaper.

The sale would raise almost £4bn for the UK Government, although the money has been earmarked to pay for the clean-up of reactor sites.
