E.ON Gets Green Light for Danish Wind Project

28 April 2008 16:25

Energy giant E.ON has won the right to build a large wind farm offshore Denmark, as part of its growing renewables portfolio.

The Rödsand II project will be built south of the island of Lolland, making it E.ON's largest wind farm.

Rödsand II's 200MW capacity will provide clean energy to power 200,000 homes, providing two percent of Denmark's power needs.

The project was hit by large capital costs of several plant items leading E.ON to withdraw from the project in December 2007.

The Danish Energy Board started a new tendering process in February 2008 in which E.ON won a new tender for the project, which is due for completion in 2010.

Following the acquisition of wind energy companies Airtricity in the US and E2 Renovables Ibéricas in Spain last year, the company is the seventh largest wind power company in the world.
