Exxon Plans for Carbon Reduction

06 May 2008 12:38

US-based energy giant ExxonMobil has announced plans to build a commercial demonstration plant that removes carbon dioxide from natural gas, to reduce greenhouse emissions.

The company says it is injecting US$100m to complete and develop the testing of natural gas treating technology to make carbon capture and storage cheaper.

ExxonMobil plans to build the plant in Wyoming, US, where it will use Controlled Freeze Zone technology to process about 14 million cubic feet of gas per day for injection into underground storage or for use in reservoir management to enhance oil recovery.

The technology has been designed to eliminate the use of solvents, sulphur plants and carbon dioxide venting when processing natural gas, says the company.
