EDF Prepares for British Energy Bid

07 May 2008

EDF's board is to meet today to finalise a possible takeover offer for British Energy ahead of Friday's deadline.

The French nuclear company is seen as a frontrunner to buy out British Energy - which runs eight nuclear reactors - due to its financial strength.

UK energy giant Centrica has also shown interest in British Energy but sources talking to the UK's Telegraph newspaper say the company is unlikely to be given a role as part of a bid consortium.

Germany's RWE has also put in an indicative bid of 700p a share, valuing British Energy at just over £11bn.
