Siemens Wins US Wind Farms Contract

08 May 2008 15:12

Siemens Energy has won a massive contract to supply wind turbines to clean energy company FPL Energy for several wind farms across the US.

US-based FPL Energy has ordered 218 2.3MW wind turbines with a total capacity of 500MW, scheduled for delivery in 2009.

The blades for the units will be manufactured at a new Siemens production facility in Iowa, which is set to grow as part of clean energy expansion plans, the company says.

In 2006 and 2007, Siemens installed wind turbines with a combined capacity of 600MW for FPL-owned wind farms in Texas, Minnesota and North Dakota.

FPL currently has more than 15,500 net megawatts of generating capacity across 25 US states using clean-burning fuels and renewable resources, says the company.

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
