Wärtsilä Wins Brazilian Power Deal

09 May 2008 15:46

Wärtsilä has won a deal to build a €80m power plant in Brazil.

The EPC contract with independent Brazilian power producer Maracanaú Geradora de Energia SA is the latest of three orders for power plants, due to be operational at the start of 2010.

The 168MWe power plant will be installed at Fortaleza, in Ceará State, north-eastern Brazil.

The Maracanaú plant is expected to be operational for approximately 2,000 hours a year when water reservoirs are low, between December and April.

Domestic fuel will be used to cover the energy gap during the critical energy supply periods when there is insufficient water for hydro generation, says Wärtsilä.
