Finland Mulls More Nuclear Power

12 May 2008 16:28

The Finish Government is to make a decision on whether to build new nuclear reactors in 2010 ahead of parliamentary elections in 2011, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Electricity producer Teollisuuden Voima has submitted an application to the ministry to build the country's sixth reactor, in Olkiluoto, southwestern Finland.

Two more utilities, Fortum and Fennovoima, are also hoping to build new nuclear reactors and will send their applications to the ministry next year, writes AFP.

Finland's fifth nuclear reactor, which is also the world's first next generation pressurised water reactor, is currently being built in Olkiluoto by Areva and Siemens.
