KEPCO in US$4.5bn Kazakhstan Power Plant Deal

14 May 2008

South Korean utility Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and construction company Samsung Corp have secured a preliminary US$4.5bn deal to build a power plant in Kazakhstan, writes Reuters.

The plant, with a capacity of 1,320MW, is South Korea's largest power deal.

Sources speaking to the news agency say the two firms are in talks with Kazakhstan's state holding company Samruk.

The deal is believed to have been signed during South Korean Prime Minister Han Seung-soo's visit to central Asia this week.
