14 May 2008 16:18

General Electric is to supply eight natural gas-powered generators to the Iraqi Government in a US$275m deal, an Iraqi government spokesman has announced.

The government is set to buy four GE generators with a capacity of 150MW and four smaller ones producing 40MW.

The country needs 9,500MW of power a day but is currently experiencing shortages and receiving only around 5,000MW.

Most of the generators are expected to be installed in Bagdad.

Delivery dates were not specified.
