Sri Lanka’s first solar power enabled village has been established in Galgamuwa in the Monaragala district.

As part of the project, solar power facilities have been provided for 300 houses in Galgamuwa village. The ministry of Power and Energy says the government of India has provided grants to enable the work to take place.

The project is implemented under the government’s renewable Energy Development Programme with the objective of supplying electricity to the remote villages across the country.
