The Chinese Wind Energy Association (CWEA) intends to develop seven wind power bases in the country by 2020, China.org reported.
The power bases will be set up in Jiuquan in Gansu Province, Hami in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Hebei Province, western Jilin Province, eastern Inner Mongolia and western Inner Mongolia and Jiangsu Province.
Each base will have a minimum capacity of 10GW with a total investment of RMB 1tn to build the them.
Once completed in 2020, the capacity of the seven bases will be 120GW.
Earlier in May 2009, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) permitted the proposal for building a wind power plant in Jiuquan.
The Jiuquan plant will have a capacity of 3.8 million GW.
In 2008, China added 12 million KW of installed wind power capacity.
