Areva and EDF have agreed to increase the amount of used nuclear fuel sent to Areva treatment sites from 2010.
The new agreement is in line with a 2008 framework agreement, which states that AREVA will operate its La Hague and Melox sites until at least 2040 during which EDF shall have access to the facilities for its own purposes.
Under the new deal, EDF will increase the amount of used nuclear fuel sent for treatment to La Hague from 850 tons to 1,050 tons per year and the amounts of MOX fuel fabricated at the Melox site from 100 tons to 120 tons per year.
The conditions cover the transportation, treatment and recycling of the fuel and a contract to this effect will be signed before the end of the first quarter of 2010, Areva said in a statement.
