AGL Energy and photovoltaics manufacturer First Solar have won a $130m grant from the federal government to finance the construction of a 159MW solar project in Australia.
The project is estimated to cost $450m and will be built across two sites in Broken Hill and Nyngan, New South Wales.
The consortium won the grant after the initial contract winner, Moree Solar Farm, proposed major changes to the project and failed to meet a December 2011 deadline to secure financial assistance, reports the Australian.
The project is expected to generate enough electricity to power 30,000 homes on completion, which is scheduled in 2015.
Other shortlisted applicants for the grant included the TRUenergy and Infigen-Suntech.
