Doosan wins two turbine and generator supply contracts worth $137m

South Korea-based Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction has received $137m Notices of Award from Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company (UEEPC) and Cairo Electricity Production Company (CEPC) for the supply of turbines and generators.

These two state-run companies are currently constructing the Assiut Thermal Power Plant and the Cairo West Thermal Power Plant, respectively. Under the terms of the contract, Doosan will supply, install, and test operate a 650MW-class turbine generator at both of the plants.

The project is scheduled for completion by April 2020 after carrying out work for 40 months.

"Doosan will concert its efforts to expand EPC projects and deliver more advanced power equipment and facilities overseas."

Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction's turbine generator BG chief executive officer (CEO) Heung Gweon Park said: “Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction outbid global power equipment players including GE, Siemens, and MHPS in an international open competitive bid.

“With proven competitiveness, Doosan will concert its efforts to expand EPC projects and deliver more advanced power equipment and facilities overseas.”

In October this year, US-based energy storage systems (ESS) unit Doosan GridTech won another contract to supply advanced ESS solutions to Austin Energy. Under the contract, Doosan will supply ESS solutions for solar power generation of 3MWh capacity to the Kingsbury substation.

Doosan entered the ESS and micro-grid market in September last year when it was selected as the main provider for the Korean Government’s smart grid project.
