India’s hydro power producer, National Hydroelectric Power (NHPC) has partnered with West African firm Dangote Industries, to acquire two hydro power-generation assets in Nigeria.

Dangote Industries has qualified to bid for two hydro assets and has sought NHPC’s technical expertise for the next round of bidding on 16 January 2012.

The Nigerian Government intends to award the projects by February next year, reports Hydro World.

NHPC chairman and managing director ABL Srivastava said the company was in the process of finalising the terms with Dangote Industries.

The power projects included in the acquisition are 600MW Shiroro Hydro Electric and the 1,330MW Kainji Hydro Electric.

Nigeria has started the privatisation of nine power-generation and eleven distribution assets, of which seven are thermal and two are hydro power projects.
