Siemens has expanded an existing service agreement with KAR Group to include two new SSC5-2000E units at the 930MW Khormala natural gas-fired plant in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Extension of the agreement is expected to improve the turbines’ operational flexibility, availability, and performance for the next 15 years.

In addition, the deal is anticipated to help the Kurdistan Regional Government realise plans to increase power generation capacity by increasing the efficiency of existing facilities.

The Mena Power Report 2017 has estimated that Iraq has a demand for 21GW of power, which is growing faster than supply.

“We currently manage approximately 2,800MW across the Middle East and North Africa region and more than 16,000MW globally.”

Siemens Middle East power generation services senior executive vice-president Gianluigi Giovanni said: “With more than 20 years of experience in operations and maintenance (O&M) of power plants, we currently manage approximately 2,800MW across the Middle East and North Africa region and more than 16,000MW globally.

“Our global resources and fleet expertise enable us to provide complete plant services and management.
