Southern Power has acquired 276MW Bethel Wind Energy Center in Texas from Invenergy Services.

This acquisition is in line with Southern Power's renewable growth strategy and is expected to further strengthen its position in this sector.

Southern Power's president and chief executive officer (CEO) Buzz Miller said: “Bethel Wind is an important piece of our renewable portfolio as we expand our wind generating capacity in 2017. This facility will help serve our customers with clean wholesale energy."

With this new acquisition, Southern Power owns more than 3,200MW of renewable generation across 36 solar, wind, and biomass facilities either announced, acquired, or under construction.

"This facility will help serve our customers with clean wholesale energy."

Blattner Energy is a US-based engineering company that constructed the Bethel Wind Energy Center. Invenergy Services will be responsible for operations and maintenance of the facility upon completion.

The Bethel Wind Energy Center is located in the Castro County in Texas and makes use of 120 GE Renewable Energy manufactured wind turbines.

Construction was initiated in January last year and final commissioning of the turbines is expected to be completed later this month.

This new project aligns with Southern Power's business policy of strengthening its wholesale business through acquisitions and constructing generating assets significantly covered by long-term contracts.
