Toshiba secures equipment supply contract for Indian power plant

Japan-based Toshiba Corp has received a contract from Meja Urja Nigam to supply two 600MW supercritical steam turbine and generator island packages for the Meja thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The value of the contract is estimated at $315m.

Under the terms of the agreement, Toshiba will engage in engineering, procurement, manufacturing and installation and testing of the steam turbine generator islands.

The thermal power plant is scheduled to start commercial operation of the first unit 48 months from the contract award and the second unit in 54 months.

The steam turbine and generator for the power plant will be manufactured at Toshiba JSW and at Toshiba's Keihin Product Operations in Japan.

Meja Urja Nigam is joint venture between NTPC and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utapatdan Nigam Ltd.
