Wärtsilä has been added to the annual Global 100 list of the most ecological large corporations in the world, the ‘2018 Global 100’.

This year’s Global 100 companies were recognised in Davos as an aside to the World Economic Forum. Selected from a pool of 5,994 publicly listed companies, the Global 100 companies represent 22 countries and encompass all sectors of the economy.

The Global 100 companies demonstrate the strong linkage between the delivery of superior value society and the generation of superior financial performance. The Global 100 ranking is meant to identify those companies best equipped to thrive over the long-term. This year, Corporate Knights also identified the year of origin for all the ranked companies. The average age of the ‘2018 Global 100’ companies is 85 years. Wärtsilä, established in 1834, is already 184 years old.

Corporate Relations and Sustainability director Marko Vainikka said: “Being included in the ‘2018 Global 100’ most sustainable corporations in the world represents a major recognition of our continuous sustainability work.

“Our extensive portfolio of environmentally sound products and solutions enables us to contribute to sustainable global development, and we work in close cooperation with our customers to achieve better environmental performance.

“This recognition confirms that Wärtsilä is living up to its purpose of enabling sustainable societies with smart technology.”

Wärtsilä is also included in many other Sustainability Indices, including the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the MSCI ACWI ESG Leaders Index, and the FTSE4Good Index series.

The Global 100 is an annual project initiated by Corporate Knights, the company that founded the council for clean capitalism. Launched in 2005, the Global 100 is announced each year in connection with the World Economic Forum in Davos.
