SA Robotics is pleased to have started providing the services and equipment required to remove the core of CH2MHILL Plateau Remediation’s KE reactor at Richland, WA. The KE Reactor was constructed in the early 1950s. The mission of the reactors was to produce weapons-grade plutonium. The core is made of graphite blocks of nominal dimensions 3¾in square by 48in long and stacked into a configuration of 33.5ft x 41ft x 41ft.

The thermal shield is comprised of a 10in thick cast iron layer surrounding the graphite. SA Robotics’ proposed scope is to provide the engineering, equipment, installation, testing, and labour to remove the core, including the thermal shield, from the KE reactor.
