Wood Group Power Operations, Inc. ("WGPO"), part of the Gas Turbine Services Division of international energy services company, John Wood Group PLC ("Wood Group"), has been awarded four operations and maintenance (O&M) contracts, worth in total more than $100 million, by LS Power Generation, LLC ("LS Power") at electric generating facilities in the Western United States to be acquired by LS Power from Duke Energy North America.

Under the contracts, WGPO is responsible for the provision of care, custody and control O&M services for a 5,000 megawatt generating portfolio comprising steam turbines, aero-derivative gas turbines and six advanced technology General Electric Frame 7FA heavy industrial gas turbines. The projects in the portfolio include the 1,002 megawatt Morro Bay, 2,538 megawatt Moss Landing, 165 megawatt Oakland and 700 megawatt South Bay facilities in California, and the 570 megawatt Arlington Valley Generating Station in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Frank Avery, President of WGPO, said: "We are extremely pleased to have been selected by LS Power as their O&M provider of choice for more than 80% of the assets to be acquired from Duke Energy, which together create enough generating capacity to power around five million homes. The skills, expertise and experience of WGPO’s staff and management, combined with the extensive technical capability within the wider Wood Group, will enhance and support the existing O&M teams at each location. We recognize the hard work, dedication and success that each operating team has delivered for Duke Energy and look forward to forming a complementary and collaborative working relationship with them to benefit LS Power’s operations into the future."

Carolyne Wass, Senior Commercial Manager of LS Power, said: "We selected Wood Group for its breadth of capabilities and innovative approach to the market. They have demonstrated their ability to be flexible and creative during this transition process as they take over the power plants, including hiring more than 200 new employees in just a few weeks."

These contracts with LS Power further strengthen Wood Group’s successful track record in supporting advanced 'F’ technology equipment, and follow the award to WGPO by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District Financing Authority of a long term GE Frame 7FA Oamp;M contract, and the award to Wood Group Integrated Plant Solutions, Inc. by Interstate Power and Light Company in Iowa, USA to provide long term packaged maintenance services for their GE Frame 7FA gas turbines.
