SafeContractor has awarded Hilsonic recognition for ensuring a consistent level of health and safety excellence through its operations.

SafeContractor is a leading third-party accreditation scheme which acknowledges very high standards in health and safety management amongst UK contractors.

Mark Brown, technical director at Hilsonic, recognised the benefits of the scheme: "SafeContractor certification is viewed by many organisations as a confirmation of competency, which will in turn attract more new contracts for our business. There will also be a positive impact with insurers when our company liability policy is up for renewal as our commitment to safety has been clearly demonstrated."

In order to become a member of the SafeContractor scheme, Hilsonic underwent an assessment which examined the company’s health and safety procedures and its track record for safe practice. Meeting the rigorous standard required has enabled Hilsonic to become part of a database of accredited contractors representing many key services including building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.

Many large national organisations, particularly those involved in food manufacture, property, facilities management, retail and leisure sectors, have registered to use the database to ensure that they are selecting reliable businesses for their contracted services.

John Kinge, technical director of SafeContractor, said: "Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place.

"More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Hilsonic has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.

"SafeContractor plays a vital role in supporting our clients in meeting their compliance needs, whilst working with their contractors as they progress through the accreditation process."
