On 4th December 2013 Elmeridge Cable Services were pleased to participate in the HVPD Seminar Offshore Wind Farm Cable Testing Seminar held at the Lowry Centre, Manchester, UK.
The event was well attended by members of the UK Offshore Windfarm community and speakers presented a range of topics relating to the monitoring and location of potential faults in subsea cables. Jim Attwood, managing director of ECS followed this up with a presentation on a strategy for the management of strategic spares for subsea cables in the offshore windfarm industry centred on the introduction of a universal subsea cable joint that can be used for the repair of a range of high-voltage cables.
The project, involving both ECS and HVPD, is well advanced and is currently securing the necessary funding to complete the development and type testing programme.
The strategic spares strategy outlined envisages a commercial pooling arrangement whereby the subsea cable owners and operators participate in a centrally held set of spares managed by an independent third party. Elmeridge Cable Services currently operates the ecstock facility holding a range of strategic land cable and accessory spares. The subsea cable strategic spares can easily be accommodated in this facility.
