Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts activity down 20% in Q2 2021
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

There were 48 electricity procurement contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q2 2021, marking a drop of 20% over the last four-quarter average of 60, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q2 2021 with 116 contracts and a 38.3% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 80 contracts and a 26.4% share and Electricity Procurement with 48 contracts and a 15.8% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 43 contracts and an 89.6% share
  2. Electricity Supply: four contracts and an 8.3% share
  3. Project Implementation: one contract and a 2.1% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in Q2 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 40 contracts with an 80% share, followed by wind with eight contracts and a 16% share and geothermal with one contract and a 2% share.

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,840MW from four contracts
  2. Taiwan Power (Taiwan): 640MW from one contract
  3. National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan): 200MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Acme Solar Holdings Pvt (India): 1,150MW from two contracts
  2. Yunlin Holding (Germany): 640MW from one contract
  3. JSW Energy (India): 540MW capacity from one contract.
