Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts activity down 26% in Q4 2020

There were 37 electricity procurement contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2020, marking a drop of 26% over the last four-quarter average of 50, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2020 with 110 contracts and a 35.7% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 100 contracts and a 32.5% share and Electricity Procurement with 37 contracts and a 12% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 36 contracts and a 97.3% share
  2. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 2.7% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in Q4 2020

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 31 contracts with a 75.6% share, followed by wind with eight contracts and a 19.5% share and thermal with two contracts and a 4.9% share.
