Asia-Pacific generation equipment contracts activity up 16% in Q3 2020
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

There were 96 generation equipment contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2020, marking a rise of 16% over the last 12-month average of 83, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2020 with 114 contracts and a 34.3% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 96 contracts and a 28.9% share and Electricity Procurement with 62 contracts and an 18.7% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 77 contracts and an 80.2% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: ten contracts and a 10.4% share
  3. Project Implementation: nine contracts and a 9.4% share.

Wind is top technology for Asia-Pacific generation equipment contracts in Q3 2020

Looking at generation equipment contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, wind accounted for 37 contracts with a 38.1% share, followed by solar with 25 contracts and a 25.8% share and thermal with 20 contracts and a 20.6% share.

The top issuers of generation equipment contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Taiwan Power (Taiwan): 6,500MW from one contract
  2. Hin Kong Power (Thailand): 1,400MW from one contract
  3. Xinghai Group: 250MW capacity from one contract.
