Asia-Pacific generation equipment contracts activity up 6% in Q4 2020

There were 100 generation equipment contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2020, marking a rise of 6% over the last four-quarter average of 94, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2020 with 110 contracts and a 35.7% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 100 contracts and a 32.5% share and Electricity Procurement with 37 contracts and a 12% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 79 contracts and a 79% share
2. Project Implementation: eight contracts and an 8% share
3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: seven contracts and a 7% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 6% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific generation equipment contracts in Q4 2020

Looking at generation equipment contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 34 contracts with a 34.3% share, followed by wind with 27 contracts and a 27.3% share and thermal with 21 contracts and a 21.2% share.

The top issuers of generation equipment contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

1. Korea Western Power (South Korea): 728MW from one contract
2. Nepal Water & Energy Development (Nepal): 216MW from one contract
3. PT Freeport Indonesia (Indonesia): 128MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

1. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (South Korea): 944MW from two contracts
2. Wartsila (Finland): 128MW from one contract
3. Vestas Asia Pacific Wind Technology Pte. (Singapore): 109.2MW capacity from one contract.
