Power industry contracts in Asia-Pacific for November 2020 down 39%

Asia-Pacific power industry contracts activity in November 2020 saw 57 contracts announced, marking a drop of 39% over the last 12-month average of 93, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in November 2020: China leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, China led the activity in November 2020 with 20 contracts and a share of 35.1%, up 17.8% over the previous month and up 18% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Australia with eight contracts and a share of 14% and India with five contracts and a share of 8.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 18 contracts, followed by China with 17 and Vietnam with nine contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in November 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 23 contracts and a 41.8% share, followed by wind with 15 contracts and a 27.3% share and thermal with nine contracts and a 16.4% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in November 2020, with 25 contracts, followed by Power Plant (24) and T&D Project (8).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 26 contracts and a 45.6% share
  2. Project Implementation: 20 contracts and a 35.1% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: seven contracts and a 12.3% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 5.3% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 1.8% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Korea Western Power (South Korea): 728MW from one contract
  2. Trading Construction Works Organization: 350MW from one contract
  3. Global Power Generation (Spain): 109.2MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (South Korea): 728MW from one contract
  2. SEPCO Electric Power Construction (China): 450MW from one contract
  3. China Gezhouba Group (China): 350MW capacity from one contract.
