Asia-Pacific power industry contracts activity in October 2019 saw 51 contracts announced, marking a drop of 39% over the last 12-month average of 84, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in October 2019: India leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, India led the activity in October 2019 with 14 contracts and a share of 27.5%, down 13.1% over the previous month and down 55% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Australia with seven contracts and a share of 13.7% and China with five contracts and a share of 9.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 31 contracts, followed by Australia with ten and China with eight contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in October 2019

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 23 contracts and a 51.1% share, followed by thermal with nine contracts and a 20% share and wind with eight contracts and a 17.8% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in October 2019, with 25 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (15) and Electricity Procurement (13).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 19 contracts and a 37.3% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 15 contracts and a 29.4% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 12 contracts and a 23.5% share

  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 3.9% share.

  3. K-Electric (Pakistan): 900MW capacity from one contract.
